Hello my novel-ly crew! I haven't been on here in awhile... It's Katie, by the way.
I was reading the last post about the novel-swapping thing. And I know that everytime I see Hannah she says we're starting up in March... so I had some ideas
>I don't think that a week is long enough to read the novel. Maybe a few weeks.
> I think since the editing process is long... and bloody... that maybe it would be a good idea that after we swapp novels [I'm liking this 'in a hat' thing. For everyone, even. We can do it a couple of times.'] each meeting, we can read a part that we really liked from each novel. Just for moral boost, or whatnot.
> If everyone agrees, the editor can either make small marks when they come across plot holes or whatnot on the manuscript. Or not. I also think that maybe a letter from the editor suggesting changes to improve the novel would be useful too.
>We could swap novels a few times, right? Just to get different opinions. How many people actually finished their novels?
Oh, and I was wondering if I missed the picture today, for Yearbook. Or if there was one... I was at Kiwannis [YEAH GOLD!]
Alrighty, thanks guys!
Very good suggestions :D I would love to get a lot of feedback about my novel ;D Hahaha. A letter from the editor is a good idea :D
I already finished the fundamental editing of my novel... what I mean is, I read through it, and as I did I marked out all the really weak places, or plot holes... so when I go back to edit it for real, I will know what parts I want to concentrate on :) I don't mind other people making comments on my hard copy either! :D
By the way, I don't think they took our Yearbook picture yet. If they did and I missed it, we can just submit that one you took at the end-of-the-month party, anyway ^_^
CONGRATZ ON GOLD!!! :D
I had no idea they were taking Yearbook pictures. I would've talked to someone. (I've missed the whole week too... Kiwanis :D I GOT RUNNER UP FOR THE ROSEBOWL HOLY CRAP)
Alright, I still haven't made up the thing to go with each novel yet, but they'll be a checkbox for the author to fill in if they want to allow editing directly on the novel, and another section for general comments, and er... other stuff. :) like that.
Reading parts from the novel sounds like a great idea! It'll give us something to do when we meet up, cause picking names out of a hat won't take that long.
We'll definately swap as many times as possible. I don't know how feasible it is, but I'm hoping to get each person to read everyone else's novel by the time school's done.
Anyway, I talked to Hughes and we have confirmation for the room again on Friday's, so we'll be meeting up first Friday of March. It'd be great if people could print their novels by then, but if not I'll see if we can hijack the computer lab and... lots of paper.
Whoa... Friday's have something else going on now, for me and Rebecca. As in, rehearsals for the play that she wrote and directed, and I stage manage for :O We're going to have to do something about that conflict... is there any other lunchtime that Nano can happen?
We probably won't meet every Friday... could you spare on here and there? I'm thinking every second, or third...
It's just that I'm not sure how much more I can ask Hughes for. You know he doesn't really enjoy doing it already. :( If worse comes to worst, it probably won't take that long... you guys could stay for the book swap and leave right after that, and we can middle around the rest of the time. If not, I'll see what I can do!
Hm, yes, that might not be too bad...
We'll work it out :)
